Insect and Disease Management

There are several types of insects that seem to like paspalum in particular, and left untreated,
can cause significant damage. If you detect an insect infestation you will need to spray your
SeaIsle 1 with an insecticide. Fortunately, there are a number of products that can be used for this.
Once the insects are controlled, the grass will grow back. Another problem that sometimes occurs with
paspalum is disease- if the shoot tissue looks brown and torched, it can be disease. This sometimes
occurs in response to scalping, or over or under-irrigating. If you suspect disease, you want to
make sure you're treating for the right thing, and should submit leaf samples to a diagnostic lab.

GRASS ENCROACHMENT
Paspalum into bermudagrass

•Dual combination of Confront (triclopyr + clopyralid) + MSMA (0.5 and 2.0 lb.ai./A)
•Applications at 3-4 week intervals during the Spring after full greenup
•At least 3 repeat applications may be needed
Bermudagrass into paspalum
•Single herbicides or combinations have been ineffective; too much damage on the paspalum
•Have researched Prograss, Fusilade, and Envoy

PLANT GROWTH REGULATORS
•Primo (trinexapac-ethyl): 0.13 ai/A on fairways; 0.125 fl oz/M or less on greens
•Trimmit (paclobutrazol): not sensitive to rates or timing of applications;
seed head suppression; minimum growth suppression
•Proxy (ethephon): seed head suppression; some growth suppression
•Cutless (fluprimidol): growth suppression <75 F and >85 F
