Helminthosporium Disease Management

Symptoms: purplish to reddish brown spots gradually fading to tan areas, brownish fading out grass down to crown region. Occurs with temperatures between 68 to 95 F. May act in concert with Curvularia.
Cultural control:
•maintain healthy turf root system using aeration and frequent K application
•avoid excessive nitrogen
•remove traffic stress on the turf
•maintain proper irrigation scheduling
•check for nematodes
•keep nutrients balanced
•prevent stress and early leaf senescence
Fungicides to avoid: Benomyl
Thiophanate methyl (Fungo, Clearys 3336, Topsin, Systec 1998)
DMIs (Bayleton, Banner, Eagle, Rubigan) ((demethylation inhibiting fungicides
such as fenarimol, propiconazole, triadimefon))
Fungicides to use: azoxystrobin (Heritage)
trifloxystrobin (Compass)
iprodione (Chipco 26019, Chipco 26GT)
vorlan (Curalan, Touche)
pyraclostrobin (Insignia)
